#1 - This town is crazy, it's got people losing minds!

Greetings and welcome to the first Access All Areas blog post!

Thanks for signing up; we appreciate you joining us on the journey of making album no. 2.

We started the recording of the album at the beginning of November 2018 and progress has been great. We headed to The Mill Studios in South Norfolk to record drums and bass under the watchful eye of the excellent Jonny Cole. We've worked with Jonny on a number of occasions and he always gets the best out of our playing; we come away with great takes having worked hard and enjoying our time there.

As with most of our recordings the guitars, vocals and other instrumentation will be added back at Pete's studio, The Halfway House. We'll then work on the production together before sending the finished mixes to the mastering legend Pete Maher; we still have to pinch ourselves that the guy who masters tracks for The Rolling Stones, U2, Noel Gallagher, Jack White, Paul Weller and The Killers always finds time to squeeze our tracks into his hectic, A-list client roster!

We're now nearly a month on from the start of the process and we have 7 songs that we're tinkering with:

  • Splinters
  • This is a Feeling
  • We the people
  • Stop! Don't start
  • Into the fading light
  • Lost inside a moment
  • Someone like you

We've only played one of these tracks (We the people) at a gig so these really are brand, spankin' new songs which no one else has heard...until right now.

That's right, we're giving you the opportunity to hear one of the first mixes of the track Splinters! This is only available to the readers of the Access All Areas blog posts so I hope you feel very honoured ;-). You can stream it in the music player at the top of the Access All Areas page. This is the area we'll add other tracks during the recording process.

This song was one of the first written in our recent sessions and it's a short, sharp slab of rock 'n' roll. Here are the lyrics in all their glory. It's about having that person to take on the world with even when things appear to be going a little crazy:

Splinters

This town is crazy it’s got people losing minds

When you live in a bubble these will be troubling times

They teach you lessons that you never really learnt

Give you your number and they say to wait your turn

Baby, even after all the...

Splinters, coming off the walls I...

Need you, more than I’ve needed anyone before

I took your hand tonight and as it slipped in mine

We looked at each other and wished for another life

They told us things that we just wish we’d never heard

It’s just the price we pay for living in this world

I know that we can overcome

While they’re all walking we can run…

Once again thanks for signing up to the AAA blogs and we hope you enjoy having an exclusive listen to the early mix of Splinters. Let us know what you think in the comments below.

Much love,

Pete, Stu, Jas

The Magic Es

Sounding good chaps. Looking forward to the album and...maybe another studio visit (if you can fit me in between 6 Music and Radio 1/2 etc)? Take care. :-)

Once upon a time headphones had a stereo jack plug. Then came PC's/laptops and we all went mini jack/3.5mm. Now I have just ordered a cheap 'n' nasty 2.5mm adapter for my AKG Reference "cans" so I can listen to Splinters as nature intended on my newish laptop (thanks Hewlett-Packard). Sounding good so far. This Access All Areas is a cool idea - It feels good to be a part of it.
